Mansfield Rugby Club Upgrade From Point Elastic To Dynamik Sprung Sports Floor

As well as being the training centre for all of Mansfield’s junior and senior teams, the rugby club’s sports hall is a pivotal facility for local community events.

The delicate nature of their old point elastic surface however often limited what events the facility could host as the surface was susceptible to damage from equipment, tables and chairs. The club therefore made the commercial decision to upgrade the old floor to a more durable sprung system that would allow them to host a wider variety of events, as stated in the open letter below by the club chairman, Andy Foster:

Dear Supporter/Member,
As you are aware, at the club we have a brilliant facility in the shape of the Sports Hall which unfortunately, due to the sponge mat flooring, is very limited as to what we can do with it commercially. Consequently there are a variety of social events that we are unable to accommodate in the sports hall such as shows, festivals and concerts. As a result the Hall stands unused for large parts of the year. Therefore our plan is to replace the floor with a multi-purpose surface which will be compliant with modern regulations allowing us to continue hiring the hall out to sports groups for football, badminton and cricket etc. but will also be durable, hard wearing and robust enough to accommodate many different kinds of social events. This will provide the club with a much needed revenue source going forward allowing us to hold or host many more varied events providing income and helping us to improve and maintain the best possible playing and training facilities for rugby that we can.

The system of choice for the facility was our Sport England compliant Sydney system which is designed for fast installation, therefore minimising disruption at the club whilst also being very low profile to avoid any height differential problems at the doorways.

The system was finished in our highly durable Sport Linoleum which not only now allows the facility to host a wider variety of events but the easy, cost effective maintenance throughout the life of the product ensures the club have more funds available in invest in other areas of the facility.

Myerscough College Achieve Dynamic Double At Dynamik National School Championship Finals

Myerscough College U17 girls and U19 men came away from Leicester Arena on Thursday having taken out a twin triumph at the Dynamik National Schools Championship Finals Day.

Myerscough’s U17 girls got the ball rolling with a 73-52 victory against their Barking Abbey counterparts before the U19 men took to the floor and just pipped Greig City Academy to the prize – and plaudits – by a six-point margin (70-64).

Coaching duo Mike Bernard and Troy Culley helped to mastermind those respective successes for the Preston-based programme from the sidelines, although the latter was quick to humbly point out that much of the credit belonged to those who stepped out onto the court and not necessarily stood off of it.

“It has been a very good day and it’s a testament to the kids’ hard work,” Culley commented. “They’re the ones putting the time in every single day. I can only put these kids in a position to go and play. They’re the ones on the floor who actually have to go and execute and they brought it home today. We just put them in a position to go and do that. I said to the kids in the huddle at the end that they really represented our programme well today and I’m very proud of them all.”

John Madejski Academy (JMA) Rockets claimed the U19 women’s crown with a dominant 115-34 win over Blackpool Sixth Form College.

“We’ve got a small, but really committed, group of girls,” explained JMA Rockets head coach Matt Johnson. “They’ve been working so very hard and, to get such a big win here in Leicester, it’s just a credit to the way that our girls have performed. We’ve got some especially talented girls and a lot of them are very young as well, so we’re looking forward to seeing how they perform in the future.”

Meanwhile, Loreto College clinched the U17 boys’ title with a slender 61-59 result against Charnwood College Riders courtesy of a last-gasp breakaway and dunk by MVP Josh Pearce.

“It was a bit of a scrappy final and it came down really to the first team that didn’t do as many turnovers,” Loreto College head coach Peter Paraskeva stated. “We only had eight players today. We were missing our best player and we still got the job done without him. I’m really happy with a couple of our guys filling in at point guard when they’ve never had to play in that particular position before. We did alright in the circumstances!”

Elsewhere, St Bonaventure’s RC High School won the Boys’ U14 Premier tournament with a 77-46 result over Raines Foundation School, but went on to lose the U16 Boys’ Premier Final 73-58 to Barking Abbey.

The remaining finals take place in May at the prestigious National Basketball Performance Centre, Manchester.

Dynamik Acoustic Panels Installed At University’s Prestigious New Sports Complex

Ulster University’s new £5.1 million state-of-the-art sports complex opened last week and one of the key design features is Dynamik’s new acoustic wall panels – for both their aesthetics and performance.

The hall will not only cater to local and national sports clubs but it will also serve as a major teaching facility for sport and therefore the project specified that it must meet acoustic requirements. The Dynamik acoustic panels have been designed to reduce the mid-frequency reverberation time, therefore creating a comfortable teaching environment for both teachers and students.

With a wide range of indoor sport on the new hall’s agenda the panels must be able to withstand the impact heavy balls such as those used in cricket and hockey. For this reason each panels is constructed using a dense birch plywood backing to ensure they stand the test of time in the demanding sports hall environment.

The panels are available in a range of wood effect finishes or can be finished to any RAL colour, a refreshing set of options compared to the traditional painted blockwork finish. Ulster University opted for a RAL colour finish so they could be designed in to match the adjacent wall surfaces and create an aesthetically pleasing, modern sports hall.

Dynamik’s New Acoustic Sports Wall

The system is designed to ensure you meet current design requirements as set out by Building Regulations (within Building Bulletin 93) and Sport England with regard to sound absorption for both new and refurbishment projects.

Unlike previous products our system has been designed specifically for busy sports halls, therefore not only can it withstand the impact of cricket and hockey balls but it also creates a comfortable teaching environment.

The panels run from floor to ceiling and are available in wood effect finishes or in any RAL colour. For this reason not only is the Dynamik Acoustic Walling aesthetically pleasing but we also believe that it presents a cost savings compared to traditional internal wall construction methods.

The Dynamik Acoustic Sports Wall has already been specified for a number of highly regarded projects and we would be more than happy to assist with specifying it for yours by providing NBS specifications or BIM objects, which can be found here.

Top Futsal League Praise Wigan’s New Dynamik Floor

The UK Futsal Academy recently expressed their delight with Wigan Youth Zone’s unique new floor as they continue to host regular fixtures at the facility.

When Wigan Youth Zone’s old floor started showing signs of wear and tear they knew they needed to look at refurbishing the surface but didn’t know what their options were. The facility caters to a range of reputable sports clubs and community events, therefore the new floor had to offer high sport performance, durability and a surface that is easy to maintain.

After a meeting with Dynamik the decision was made to re-surface the existing floor with a Sport Linoleum which offers optimum levels of grip for sport as well as a robustness that allows the floor to be used for non-sporting events. The surface of choice also offers easy and cost effective maintenance throughout its life.

Since the floor was installed in December last year the facility has received nothing but praise for the new floor from users of the hall, including the UK Futsal Academy who are more than happy to continue hosting their regular fixtures within the hall.

Sport England’s Case Study Showcases Dynamik’s Arena Floor System

A new case study by Sport England exhibits Worcester University’s huge 2,200m2 sports hall and illustrates how with careful design it can cater to a wide variety of users and sporting requirements.

‘The University of Worcester Arena project demonstrates how a rationalised design can serve increased community involvement whilst meeting rigorous standards for competitive league sport at national level’.

The hall not only serves the University and its surrounding area but local sports clubs such as Worcestershire County Cricket Club, West Bromwich Albion FC, Aston Villa FC and Birmingham City FC have benefited from the facility.

The hall was also designed to meet international sporting standards, allowing the facility to host prestigious events such as the Wheelchair Basketball European Championships along with international and Premier League netball matches.

The floor of choice for the ambitious project was Dynamik’s Helsinki 10-10 system which is widely regarded as a leading sports floor system for the arena market. Not only can the floor withstand high loadings from bleacher seating and heavy portable equipment but the fully supported construction offers high performance and consistent ball bounce across the entire surface.
